Remember 1991 when the Celtics were actually good and C+C Music Factory was killing it? Well Gerald Green does, even if he was only like 5 years old at the time. In a tribute to the last Celtic to win the dunk contest, G$ pulled on some Dee Brown PUMPS, threw down his best impression of dude's "pump up, no look" winner from 1991 and finally gave Celtics fans something to cheer about this season. I for one hope demand goes up for these classic kicks, if only for selfish reasons, I have a pair and the bidding starts at $500 (they do call me E$ for a reason).

I actually agree with 3 of the songs in their top ten for '06. Gnarls' "Crazy" at number 1 is a no brainer and Clipse deserve it for "Wamp Wamp" especially with probably the best album of the year to back it up, but...

The suprise pick is clearly The Pack - "Vans" at number 5. WOW did some hyphy really hit number 5? And not just hyphy, these are some kids that goto Oakland highschool and they skateboard (check the video the see for yourself). Yeah Pharrell is Skateboard P and Lupe Fiasco is a corny ass skater dude, but these kids are on some real hyphy shit AND they don't just skate but their album is gunna be called "Skateboards 2 Scrapers". In fact, my dude Nick from The Bay was telling me how hyphy is all about skating. When I played "Vans" and pretty much any hyphy jam at my old highschool homecoming dance kids went stupid and starting moshing. It's clear that hyphy is for the kids and if the skating trend is for real, it's only a matter of time before hyphy takes the rap game and probably the whole music game over. Hip-Hop and skating together? Suburban kids will eat it up.

1) Brendan Bring 'Em at Redline last night. The crowd was crazy and my man killed it. If you missed it you are a huge sleeper. Boston does not get this kind of performance from a DJ very often.

So I arrived home from my 2 week vacation in Ibiza and Barcelona on Sunday to the typical Boston rain and cold...and it's still August. Depressing. But not as depressing as having to return to Boston nightlife after partying in the dance music capital of the world and probably the coolest city I have ever seen. The musical highlight for me was Chris Leibing's Sunday Spinclub party at Privilege in Ibiza. LIVE, BANGING, TECHNO! This Friday my self and my Soul Clap compatriot Malik El Haj Chazz Shabazz III have the honor of opening up for the legendary Josh Wink at Boston's only afterhours club: Rise. This is one of our biggest gigs to date so believe we will be coming with some next level shit! Rise is members only so you need to hit me up to get in.

On another note: Diplo's Mad Decent tour hit Great Scott last night with CSS and Bonde Do Role. It was aight. There were way to many nerds in the building and it was a million degrees so they kept rubbing up on me with their nasty nerd sweat. Mistaker has a less hater review and he took this picture of me.

While Crunk music spins its next chapter in the Yay Area the winds of change have swept through the dirty south. Houston's still got its slowed down style, but in the Dirty's capital ATL the new fire on the street is SNAP MUSIC. Groups like D4L and DFB have had huge snap music hits and Lil Jon is getting his snap on with his newest track "Snap Yo Fingers". Anyone who is interested in DJ culture has seen Scratch and now director Doug Pray (who also did a doc called Hype! about grunge music) has turned his attention to one of hip-hop's other essential elements: Graffiti. His new film Infamy premiers in Boston tonight and tomorrow at the Coolidge Corner Theater as part of the Independent Film Festival, which also has a ton of other exciting movies playing so check the site. I'm going Saturday night thanks to Judd, once again coming through with the hook up!

While many people still haven't even heard of it, Grime has been "the next big thing" to come out of the UK for awhile now, but with only 2 artists, Dizzee Rascal and Lady Soveriegn getting any recognition stateside and the only real excitment coming from Hipsters, Grime has clearly not blown up. Now here comes Dubstep, the next bastard child of UK's dance music scene. With a history that goes back further than Grime and a growing following in the US's Drum&Bass underground it seems like Dubstep might actually have some staying power. Personally, I have always secretly wanted to be a restaurant critic, as a trendsetter and food lover it seems like the perfect job. Thanks to Yelp.com, I now have the chance to live out my dream as the Boston community manager for this growing website. For those that don't know, Yelp was started in San Fran about a year ago and is built on real people's reviews of local businesses. From resaturants and bars, to boutiques, to spas and salons, to doctors and dentists you can find what you are looking for on Yelp. The best part is that anyone can sign up and WRITE their own reviews with tons of people actually reading them and sending compliments. New music/dance movement coming out of the Bay Area that finally has E-40 getting his props in the mainstream (his new album is selling like nothing else in his 15+ year career and he's dropping a DVD about the movement). The dance style is called "go dumb" and it's being called the Bay's version of Crunk, but it also reminds me of the Crumping and Clowing dance style out of LA made popular in David Lachapelle's film: Rize.
